  UAE relaxes residency requirements with ‘green visa’ 5 September 2021 The UAE announced a new visa Sunday allowing foreigners to work in the country without being sponsored by an employer, loosening residency requirements in an attempt to boost economic growth. Foreigners in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates are generally only given limited visas tied to their employment, and long-term residency is difficult to obtain. But those holding the new “green visa” will be able to work without company sponsorship, and can sponsor their parents and children up to 25 years old, officials said. “It targets highly skilled individuals, investors, businesspeople, entrepreneurs, as well exceptional students and postgraduates,” said Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani al-Zeyoudi. Army putschists in Guinea had on Sunday staged a coup and arrested President Conakry Alpha Conde. A video sighted by AFP showed some soldiers saying the army has decided to change the country’s constitution.   Nigeria court overturns teen’s 10-year prison sentence for blasphemy In Nigeria, a 13-year-old boy who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for blasphemy has had his sentence overturned. The ruling by a Sharia court sparked outcry, after it sentenced a 22-year-old musician to death for insulting Islam in a rap song.
